ABE 071: ABE/ESL Basic Medical Terminology 5 Cr Quarters: F, W This course is part of the Foundations to Health Care series and is designed for the ABE/ELA student to develop basic medical terminology and prepare him/her for a pathway in a vocational health occupation-related career. The course will facilitate the ABE/ELA student by developing basic principles of word building, suffixes, prefixes, and abbreviations used in medical terminology. This is an interactive course that will develop reading and writing of basic medical terminology and common medical abbreviations. Prerequisite: A minimum score of 221 on the CASAS reading test and/or a minimum score of 40 on the YVC placement reading test. Students should be able to read, write, understand, and speak the English language as communication is an important part of health care, and all instructions are in English.
