AHST 203: Professional Practice in Surgery

This course focuses on the professional practice in surgery, equipping students with essential knowledge and skills to excel in the field.  It covers effective communication, teamwork, and career advancement in surgical technology. Students will explore ethical principles, legal frameworks and real-world scenarios to make informed decisions that prioritize patient safety and interdisciplinary collaboration.  The course emphasizes clear communication, active listening, conflict resolution, and effective teamwork strategies within the surgical setting.  Additionally, students will assess avenues for career growth, specialization, and progression into management and leadership roles.  They will also develop skills to evaluate sentinel events and address ethical challenges in the surgical setting, promoting improved patient safety and quality of care.  
Prerequisite: Acceptance into the surgical technology program.
