AGSCI 301: Sustaining Soil Health 5 Cr Quarters: S Sustainable agriculture depends fundamentally on maintaining soil health. Effective sustainable management of soils is needed to protect and preserve this natural resource and at the same time produce food, fiber, and other products to support a growing global human population. This course will allow you to develop an advanced understanding of the physical, chemical, and biological properties of soils as they apply to sustainable farming. You will analyze factors that influence soil quality and learn how to manage soils by integrating and applying knowledge of soil fertility and nutrient management, water movement and irrigation management, causes and mitigations of soil degradation, and land use planning into sustainable soil health maintenance plans. Prerequisite: Completion of AGSCI 201 with a grade of C or better.
