PHSCI 112: Physical Science of Yakima County 5 Cr Quarters: O This course is an introductory survey of the physical sciences with an emphasis on the geology, hydrology, weather, and climate of Yakima County. Students will explore the geologic processes that shape the landscape of Yakima County, including the Cascade Range, Yakima Fold Belt, and the Yakima River Valley and its tributaries. Students will learn basic principles of atmospheric science to explain the weather and climate of the Yakima area. Emphasis will be placed on the geologic hazards (volcanoes, earthquakes, landslides) experienced in our area, and the factors that produce a landscape and climate suitable for agriculture. Prerequisite: Completion of ENGL 090T with a grade of C or better or YVC placement into ENGL 095 and eligibility for MATH 095 + MATH 005 . Distribution for DTA: Natural Sciences - Lab
